I was chasing my demons, carrying my cross
Searching for survivors in a battle I had lost
I’d proven my valor but I had no sense of pride
A charlatan for a king can make you blind

I was hoping for reasons
Someone to believe in
When an angel of mercy
Appeared before my eyes

Here in the darkness we’re all the same
We are killers and lovers with no shame
Here in the darkness sweet as the soul
Hiding from the sins no one should know

I held her closer, banishing my fears
Death’s a sanctuary for those drowning in their tears
Casting our shadows when moving through the fight
On the weary in the wicked and wise

An old man’s confusion
He’s conjured up illusions
Of a world we once lived in
Dying before our eyes

I kneel down before you, my arms have no strength
My soul has no use, my energy is spent
And I ask for forgiveness for all of my wrongs
